Greetings,

As the Wellbriety Movement has begun to “take off,” more and more of you have asked for ways that you could help in this growing recovery effort in the Native American recovery community. You have heard about and even participated in the four Sacred Hoop Journeys (1999-2003), attended one or more of the Circles of Recovery Conferences (1998-2003), attended speaking engagements, Firestarter trainings, Coalition trainings, or perhaps you have recently participated in, or are aware of, the new delivery system for our Grassroots Wellbriety curriculum, called the 7 Trainings. And maybe you have received copies of the Red Road to Wellbriety, read the Wellbriety! Online Magazine, or receive the daily Meditations with the Native American Elders distributed by email from our website at www.whitebison.org. Through each of these events and resources, White Bison has continued its effort to provide quality, peer designed, peer delivered, and peer led trainings and recovery resources. White Bison has also made every effort to make these resources available to the grassroots Native American community at little or no cost, and we would like to continue to do so.

The new reality for non-profit organizations is that shifts in federal and private funding priorities are making it more and more difficult to find grants that would enable us to provide these services and give-aways for our Native American communities. This is where we need your help. We are looking for people who would each make a commitment to fund raise $500 over the next year. Our hope is to raise $100,000 by December 31, 2005. These resources will help us to continue providing Wellbriety services and resources to Native American individuals, families, communities, and nations.

You could commit to help us with this fundraising effort by asking 5 of your contacts to contribute $100 dollars on behalf of the Wellbriety Movement to White Bison, Inc. or you could ask as many of your contacts as you choose to contribute amounts to equal the $500 fund raising commitment. Some people have suggested holding craft sales, or local fund raising events and having the proceeds designated for White Bison, Inc. All of these donations are tax deductible. We are hoping that the energy and enthusiasm that you have for the Wellbriety Movement and the benefits that it brings to so many Native American men, women, youth, and children will help us to achieve our goal. Each person will receive a small gift of appreciation.

We have called this project Warriors for Wellbriety because we have come to appreciate that it takes the energy and effort of a real warrior to bring Wellbriety to the many communities that need to begin their recovery and wellness efforts. As part of the vision for this project we see this as a truly grassroots effort on the part of individuals, families, communities, Native American companies, grassroots agencies, and nations to help bring recovery and prevention resources, training, and sustainable strategies to the local communities: an interconnected effort by, for and of the people.

As always, we are honored that you support the Wellbriety Movement and the healing that it brings to our people. I thank you and look forward to working with you on this project.

In Wellbriety,

Don L Coyhis,
President
