We called what we are doing a Wellbriety movement—not a sobriety movement but a Wellbriety movement. We got the idea and word for Wellbriety from the Passamaquoddy language from the tribe in Maine. The actual word the Passamaquoddy Elders used wouldn’t come across in English so we had to make up the word. It means wellness—emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually. The word in their language means the whole person. So that is how the name of the Wellbriety movement got started

1) Through CFC (Combined Federal Campaign)
2) By donating a dollar amount of your own choosing
3) By participating in Special White Bison Fundraisers, and
4) By Volunteering for White Bison.

The Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) provides an opportunity for federal employees to donate, by payroll deduction, a certain amount each month in support of a charity of their choice. White Bison, Inc. is designated #11364 in the CFC listing. Once a year, usually in the fall, federal employees will receive an announcement asking them to check off a charity. As a federal employee, you will also receive notices of Fairs in which various nonprofit agencies and organizations will be present at tables to introduce themselves and their organization to you. If you checked off White Bison, Inc., here are some of the programs and projects that you have helped to make possible in the past few years:

• The Journey of the Sacred Hoop
• Firestarters Trainings and resources
• Daughters of Tradition and Sons of Traditions addictions prevention programs
• Native American prison programs for men and women
• Medicine Wheel and 12 Step Training DVD’s for Men and Women
• The Red Road to Wellbriety: In the Native American Way addictions recovery and prevention book
• The Healing Forest Program
• A variety of books, pamphlets, audio and video tapes and other products for Native American healing

White Bison's mission is to assist in bringing 100 Native American communities into healing by 2010. This mission is being realized by means of the many Wellbriety resources, Wellbriety conferences, specialized community training events, Wellbriety coalitions, and the popular grassroots Firestarters circles of recovery groups across the nation. Every dollar you contribute through the Combined Federal Campaign where you work supports us in the mission. Every dollar you give through the CFC contributes to a better future and a healthier life for Native American children, families and individuals.
