Wellbriety Month, 2004—Here’s What’s Happening

White Bison is proud to announce that we are cel-ebrating National Native American Wellbriety Month and National Drug and Alcohol Addiction Recovery Month this September 2004 in conjunction with SAMHSA and CSAT. The theme for this year is Join the Voices of Recovery…Now! This year we have select-ed three cities to celebrate recovery and wellness within our communities: Rapid City, SD • Tulsa, OK • and Buffalo, NY.

Rapid City, South Dakota
This year in Rapid City, a powwow is still in planning and is tentatively set for Saturday September 25, 2004 at the Mother Butler Center, 220 Wright Street, from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm. This year’s powwow will be featur-ing the Porcupine Singers and the Crazy Horse Singers. Dacotah and Charlene Hollow Horn Bear will be the Head Man and Head Woman Dancers. John Around Him will be the MC for this gathering. People of all backgrounds are welcome to participate. Bring your dancing mocca-sins and a smile and join us at the Ramkota as we continue to celebrate recovery!
Contact Marty Frogg at 605-341-7534 for more information regarding the powwow.

Tulsa, OK
Recovery Month in Tulsa, Oklahoma is turning out to be a very exciting event for the entire community! This year, a whole Wellness Day Gathering is in store. The event is scheduled for September 11, 2004 at the Glenpool Creek Nation Community Center, located at 13839 S. Casper. It will go from 10:00 am until 12:00 midnight. The first part of the day will be geared towards youth. They will be having dunk tanks, Jumpin’ Jupiter Tents, traditional stick ball, face painting, and arts and crafts. They will also have volleyball and horseshoes. A live band is scheduled to play at 11:00 am. Grand Entry for the sobriety powwow is scheduled at 2:00 pm. In the evening there will be a feast with traditional food. Throughout the day, the staff will address the community about their recov-ery experience, strength, and hope. Guess what folks? All of these people are in recovery… from the band to the par-ticipants! Bring the kids! For more information, contact Joe Chamberlain at 918-902-0207.

Buffalo, NY
Buffalo, NY has a wonderful day planned. On September 22, 2004 at the Center for Tomorrow, Mary Craig will be hosting a Recovery Day for Buffalo and the surrounding communities. The event will take place at 120 Center for Tomorrow at the University of Buffalo. It starts at 3:00 pm and will go until 9:00 pm. They plan to have some fantastic speakers, drumming, and singers.
