Wellbriety Journey for Forgiveness
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How can I join the Wellbriety Journey for Forgiveness walk/run?
A: This is not a walk or run but a journey of the Wellbriety Movement’s Sacred Hoop of 100 Eagle Feathers and Eagle Feather Forgiveness Staff. Between May 16th and June 21st White Bison is taking these sacred objects to 23 current and former Indian Boarding School sites for healing workshops and forgiveness ceremonies. The only people traveling with these sacred objects are the small White Bison team which includes the Keeper of the Hoop & Staff- White Bison President Don Coyhis, one additional trainer, an audio/video specialist, a coordinator/communications person and a logistics person. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate in the event closest to them or the one having most significance to their family. We would also like to have as many people as possible join us for the end of journey gathering in Washington DC on June 24th. We have heard that some communities are also organizing local Boarding School Healing & Forgiveness events on the same date we are passing thru their state. Please check in your community to see if this is happening there or feel free to organize one.
Q: How can I get more information about the schedule and get involved with the event nearest me?
A: Go to the Journey Sites & Dates map on our website http://www.whitebison.org/wellbriety-journey/index.htm and click on the location you are interested in. Look for information about the agenda for this event and how to contact the local event coordinator. If you want to volunteer or support a specific event please contact that local coordinator.
Q: White Bison is seeking donations to help pay for the Wellbriety Journey for Forgiveness. Why are you asking us to help fund this journey and what will you spend our money on?
A: Under the guidance of the White Bison Council of Elders, we started working on this project back in April 2008. A significant amount of money out of our own operating funds has been spent so far on journey planning, site selection/preparation, the petition effort, journey specific communication and fundraising efforts. Participation in all of the events on this journey are free of charge to the participants. We are a small non profit organization and just don’t have the resources to fund this whole journey on our own.
We started fundraising in Jan 2009 and have received just over $11,000 in donations up through April 15th. We are spending that donated money as it comes in to pay the current cost of additional staff and materials for planning, communication and launching the Journey which will commence on May 16th.
We are anticipating an additional $80,000 of expenditures to complete and document the Wellbriety Journey for Forgiveness. This is for the cost of putting 3 vehicles and 5 people on the road for about 50 days to facilitate healing and forgiveness events at 23 current and former Indian Boarding School sites. Our Forgiveness Journey road crew will be traveling over 10000 miles from the time they depart Colorado Springs on May 13th until they return at the end of June.
