Brief History:
In 1891, 80 acres of land was set aside for "school purposes" which is the present site of the Norbert Hill Center. In 1892, the boarding school was built with funds from the government. When it opened, it accomodated 80 students who stayed for an entire school year. The government ceased operating the boarding school in 1919 and sold to the Catholic Diocese in 1924 who converted it to the Falling Angel School. In the mid 1950's the Diocese built the present structure for the boys seminary. The Oneida Tribe purchased the building in 1894 and the title of the land was returned in good faith to the Oneida Tribe of Indians. |
