Brief History: There is little online history about the old school.
The federal policies to assimilate the Indian people forced them to abandon many of their customary ways in favor of modern schools, sawmills, and other infrastucture foreign to the tribes. This school was founded just prior to the opening of the Forest Grove Indian School on the grounds of the Pacific University in Oregon in 1880, which later became Chemawa in 1884.
The
photograph of the students and staff of the Warm Springs Agency Boarding School was taken in February 1890.
